Life is definately more exciting when you try to see things through the eyes of your baby. Today my husband, father-in-law, daughter and I visited the butterfly exhibit at the botanical gardens, followed by a lovely trip to the largest gun show in FW Texas. Yes, a gun show and a garden. Something for everyone. The garden was beautiful, and incredibly hot and humid. A little crowded as well. My camra lens kept fogging over, giving most of the pictures a wierd dreamy look. Eventually, my father-in-law found a blow dryer in the exhibit and used it to clear the lens. Appearently they were placed there for just such a purpose-so smart. Every thirty minutes they would release various kinds of exotic moths and butterflys into the garden. The best part by far was watching my baby girl take it all in-the butterflies, the people-she was interested in everything. We were a hot, sticky and crowded, but in watching her genuine excitement, we also were excited.
Next, it was off to the gun show. The origional, Fort Worth Texas Gun Show. Not to be confused with like a million other gun shows that are in FW all the time. There was a huge room, full of guns and men. In the parking lot we passed a man dressed in red, white and blue holding a vote for Hilary sign. It's a wonder he wasn't shot. A brave soul indeed.Tommi Jo was initially unimpressed and we spent the first little while tucked in a public restroom nursing. Twenty minutes later we emerged from the restroom fully rested and able to enjoy the gun show and all that goes along with it (knives, T-shirts, bumper stickers, etc.) I have come to realize that going out with a baby is like going out with a celebrity. Everyone wants to see, and touch the baby. Every grandma and grandpa in the place had an eye on her. Fortunately, Tommi was in the mood to be seen and touched. She's pretty good about hamming it up for her adoring public, then going completely to crap for me in the privacy of the suburban. I do love to see her interact with people and watch her crain her little head over to see what they are doing. How fun to be a baby and live in a world of new and interesting things taken in from the security of your mothers arms. A garden and a gun show.
